Language and Culture Education Program Area
The Language and Culture Education program is an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary program, offering several key areas of research in language teaching and learning; current and historical language teaching methodologies; and language teacher education. The program provides multiple opportunities for the practice of and research into the processes of teaching and learning foreign and second languages—Foreign Languages (FL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English as a Second Language (ESL), and English Language Teaching (ELT), including biliteracy, bilingualism and multilingualism.
The master’s and doctoral programs take sociocultural, sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic anthropological, applied linguistic and ethnographic perspectives that emphasize the close interconnectedness between language and culture through the study of how language education and broader social, historical, cultural, and geopolitical contexts intersect.Language and Culture Education Program Faculty The following are the areas of specialization and research interests of faculty members in the Language and Culture program area.
