Elementary Literacy Teacher Education Program
Our Elementary Literacy program engages PK-6 teacher education students in significant teaching experiences and rigorous learning in reading and language arts in early childhood and elementary educational settings. We combine hands-on methods courses and field experiences that offer students rich opportunities to apply research-based theories and practices that respond to the daily realities of classrooms and communities.
Our goal is to provide our students with tools and technologies to understand literacy in the 21st century and to create learning spaces where all students thrive. Indiana University’s Elementary Literacy program and its graduates have been nationally recognized as exemplars and leaders in teacher education.
