The Armstrong Mandala

During 2003-4, Candice Clarke, an art teacher at Elkhart Memorial High School, was an Armstrong Teacher Educator. Ms. Clarke arranged a field trip to IU-Bloomington for one of her high school classes, and the excursion was eye-opening for many. After returning home, each of the eleven students created an thank-you illustration of what the trip had meant to him/her. They created a mandala by using their individual creations to form the wedges and inscribing their names, with the names of IU faculty, staff, and students around the perimeter of the circle and in its center. Their generous gift of a large color rendering of the mandala is framed and featured in the IU Office of Teacher Education. We have adopted the Elkhart students' mandala as the official logo for the Armstrong Teacher Educator Program. (You can click on the mandala to see an enlargement.)
