Program Sheets

These program sheets are the same ones your Teacher Education advisor will use with you when you meet with her or him. Your advisor can help you plan your program so that you will be able to get your teaching license without taking more courses than necessary. You can use the appropriate program sheet in planning; then bring the sheet to confirm your plan with your advisor. The program sheets below are in PDF format, and require Acrobat Reader to view.

  • Early Childhood Education : two certifications: 1) infant/toddler preschool programs (Pre-K) and 2) kindergarten-grade 3 (K-3)
  • Elementary Teacher Education: Theory into Practice : Meets generalist license requirements for teaching at the primary and intermediate developmental levels (Grades K-6)
    Note: Students not admitted to the Teacher Education Program during the October 1, 2009 admission period (to begin the clusters Spring 2010) will be required to meet all content, professional education and area of concentration requirements for the 8 campus Elementary Education Program listed on the program sheet below.
  • Special Education/Elementary: Teaching All Learners : Meets in part teaching license requirements for generalist and exceptional needs, mild intervention, teaching at the primary and intermediate developmental levels (Grades K-6)
  • Secondary Education Program: Meets license requirements for teaching at the early adolescence and adolescence/young adult developmental levels (Grades 5-12).
  • All School Settings: Meets generalist license requirements for teaching at the elementary primary and intermediate developmental levels as well as early adolescence and adolescence/young adult developmental levels (Grades K-12)
  • License Additions: The State of Indiana has authorized Indiana University , School of Education Bloomington to offer students an opportunity to secure licenses in two or more different teaching areas or instructional settings.  Programs are offered at the undergraduate level for candidates completing their initial degree and license and graduate levels for returning teachers.  Admission is competitive and being qualified does not guarantee acceptance in the license addition program.  Programs vary in length and are not designed to be completed as part of the four year degree program.   All course work must be completed with a ā€œCā€ or higher and each program sets its own GPA minimum in the subject field.
    • Computer Educator License: requires 21 credit hours including a 6 week practicum; 2.5 GPA minimum in course work to complete the program; and is designed to enable teachers to effectively integrate technology into their instruction, manage a computer lab and allows teachers with a license in secondary education to teach selected technology courses.
    • English as a New Language: requires 22-27 credit hours including a 6 week practicum; 2.5 GPA minimum in course work to complete the program; and prepares teachers to work with students with limited English proficiency at the initial license grade level.
    • Journalism: requires 31 credit hours. The Journalism License Addition can be added to a Secondary License.  
    • Mathematics (Middle Grades): requires 32 credit hours; 2.5 GPA minimum in course requirements; and prepares teachers at the elementary level and secondary students from different subject fields to teach middle school students mathematics only.
    • Reading (Level 1):  requires 24 credit hours including a 6 week practicum; 3.0 GPA minimum in course work to complete the program; and is designed to prepare teachers to teach reading at the level of their initial license.
    • Theatre: requires 32 credit hours of content and 6 week practicum, prepares secondary and all school settings teachers to teach theatre and drama.
  • Education Minor (Non-teaching)
    • Educational Studies Minor: The minor is designed for undergraduates outside the School of Education interested in education as a field of study. Students seeking a minor in Educational Studies are required to complete 15 hours of coursework. All coursework must be completed with a "C" or higher and a minimum of 6 hours must be at the 300+ level.
