ABOUT ME

Sherrée Wilson is Clinical Assistant Professor in Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) and Special Assistant to the Chancellor at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).  As Clinical Assistant Professor she teaches Introduction to College and University Administration and College Student Development Theory.  As Special Assistant to IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz, she has responsibility for special projects, provides consultation to academic units on recruitment and retention processes for less-represented faculty, and is also serving on a university-wide leadership team to assess diversity and equity efforts at the institution.  She is currently managing the newly-established Pre-Doctoral Fellows program in partnership with Howard University, and is a member of the campus leadership team for the IU/HBCU STEM Initiative. 

 

Dr. Wilson’s research interests include: the experiences of faculty of color at predominantly white institutions (PWIs), graduate student socialization, and career development.  She is currently co-directing a study of the experiences of faculty of color at IUPUI. 

 

Wilson’s higher education background is in career development; additionally she has experience in multicultural professional development where she managed efforts which focused on the recruitment and retention of faculty of color, and the advancement of best practices in multicultural teaching; she is also qualified in the administration and use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. 

 

Sherrée received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology from Ball State University, Master of Science in College Student Personnel Administration & Counseling from I.U. and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University. Wilson’s professional affiliations include: the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the National Career Development Association (NCDA), and the National Association of Presidential Assistants in Higher Education (NAPAHE).  Additionally, Dr. Wilson serves on the boards of the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, Indianapolis Urban League, and Madame Walker Theater Center.
