Hi, my name is Rachael Aming-Attai and I am from Trinidad and Tobago, the twin island jewels of the Caribbean. Before coming to the United States, I taught in my country as a generalist at the elementary level for ten years and then taught mathematics at the secondary level for six years. I came to the United States in 2003 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. After finishing this degree in 2005, I went on to obtain a Master’s of Arts degree in Educational Psychology, also from Ball State.
I am currently a doctoral student in the Curriculum and Instruction department here at IU in Bloomington. I am majoring in Mathematics Education with a minor in Educational Psychology. I love working with pre-service teachers - helping them to improve the mathematical knowledge that they need in order to teach mathematics effectively. My interests also include students’ algebraic thinking, teaching via problem-solving, and the mathematical skills of special needs students placed in the general education classroom.
