This is my first year at IU and my second year in a math education doctoral program. I completed one year of coursework at the University of Georgia in 2007. I currently live in Indianapolis and I’m teaching two method courses at IUPUI. I taught math for ten years at the middle and secondary levels. In addition, I taught math courses at the community college level as an adjunct. Towards the latter part of my teaching career I became increasingly disappointed with the level of student achievement. In addition, the prevalence of teacher-centered classroom bothered me. As a result of these observations, I became interested in helping transform math classrooms to better reflect the literature. Thus, my goal in working towards a doctoral degree is to take on the role of preparing future teachers as well as improving teaching practices of in-service teachers. My research interests include professional development, technology, problem solving, and special education.
