My name is Olufunke Adefope and I am a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction (Mathematics Education). I was born in Manhattan, New York but spent my formative years in my country, Nigeria. I returned to New York sixteen years ago, where I completed both my undergraduate and graduate education.
I taught mathematics to disadvantaged children from urban schools in East New York, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan for five years. This experience has led to research interests which include mathematics teaching in urban schools, access and equity in mathematics education, non-routine problem solving, alternative methods to approaching mathematics problems, history of mathematics education, assessments and testing practices in mathematics.
