ABOUT ME

I am Nivan Saada. I grew up in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo, Egypt. When I was a teenager, my family relocated to the United Kingdom, where I finished secondary school. I have attended University in both Cairo and the United States. I received my undergraduate degree in mathematics from the American University at Cairo and my graduate degree, also in mathematics, from the University of Maine. I have taught mathematics courses at several colleges and universities, including the University of Maryland, University of Maine, and the American University at Cairo. I have always been interested in mathematics and mathematics education; however, my interest in mathematics education at the elementary level formed during my work as Facilitator for Mathematics Education with Indianapolis Public Schools. In this position, I was responsible for the mathematics professional development of the districts approximately 3,000 elementary teachers. Several years ago, my husband and I decided to take the plunge and go back to school full time. There was no question what my area of study would be, mathematics education.

My specific areas of interests are teacher growth and development and urban education. When not engaged in math, I enjoy gardening and travel.
