Along with David Pace, I developed the Decoding the Disciplines method for helping students learn the thinking practiced in different disciplines. I co-direct the Freshman Learning faculty seminar and other faculty learning communities. I am a co-principal investigator in the Indiana University History Learning Project, which was awarded the 2008 Robert Menges Research Presentation Award from the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education and the 2009 McGraw-Hill – Magna Publications Scholarly Work on Teaching and Learning Award. I teach courses about the basic techniques of college teaching and the theoretical underpinnings of the practice.
