My name is George McDermott. Originally from New York, my family relocated to Indiana when I was about five-years old. I grew up in Indianapolis and joined the U.S. Air Force when I was 18. Even with the constant moves and high work commitment, I pursued education with a fever while in the military. After 22 years, I ended up with degrees in management, education, communications, electronic engineering, and human relations. Upon retiring from the military, I began teaching at ITT Tech on Indianapolis' north side. To teach a course you needed a graduate degree and 18 semester hours in the specific subject. As a result, I ended up teaching courses ranging from engineering to psychology. The students went through as cohorts, and I was able to instruct them in all their subjects. I found it extremely beneficial to the students' understanding to integrate all the subjects, especially engineering and mathematics courses. I have always loved math education and this is what caused me to move into my present area of study.
My interests are in applied and integrated mathematics. My personal interests are shared with my wife, Nivan, we both enjoy traveling and do so whenever we get a chance.
