I am interested in cultural differences and substance use among adolescents and emerging adults. My research focuses on the indentification of cultural, family, and psychiatric risk and protective factors for substance use among Latino youth in order to develop culturally-specific prevention interventions.
In terms of clinical practice, I am interested in Latino mental health and substance abuse treatment. My clinical experiences have included providing services for underserved, Spanish speaking clients struggling with a broad range of mental health problems. I am also interested in the ethical and supervisory issues related to the provision of services in Spanish by both native and non-native Spanish speakers.
