Hi! I graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington with a PhD in mathematics education in May of 2008. I am currently an assistant professor of mathematics education at Penn State University.
Before beginning my doctoral studies at Indiana University, I graduated from Wheaton College with a B.S. in mathematics. Then I earned my teaching license and M.A.T. degree at Miami University. I taught high school and middle school mathematics in Ohio and Indiana.
During my time at IU I was involved with teaching the elementary math methods course, coordinating the field experience courses for elementary education majors and for the alternative certification program, and conducting research on using teaching experiments as a professional development experience. My dissertation research focused on the mathematical interactions between a teacher and her student as they participated in a teaching experiment over the course of one school year.
Now that I am at Penn State, I am working as a faculty member in elementary mathematics education. I teach elementary math methods both in the traditional program and in the PDS (professional development school) program. My research is continuing to build on the projects I was involved with while at IU: professional development, rational number learning, and the implementation of innovative and video-based early field experiences for elementary preservice teachers.
Please feel free to contact me about my studies at Indiana University!
