More About Learning Sciences
IU Learning Sciences
A cutting-edge, science based program, the Learning Sciences specialization/track at Indiana University brings people of diverse academic backgrounds together with nationally recognized scholars at one of the nation’s premiere college campuses.

The innovative Learning Sciences program meshes great minds and research that matters.

Why? Because in today’s digital age, learning is moving at light speed, and the faculty of the Learning Sciences program is undertaking and completing world-class research — research that helps us understand how people learn in our rapidly moving, tech-savvy world. More importantly Learning Sciences seeks to involve and create opportunities for all children and adults, making learning possible, available and better.

Learning Sciences explore the relationship between the design of learning environments and how people learn. You will immerse yourself in the rich history of thinking about learning, acquiring a deep understanding of how learning has evolved over time.  Armed with this knowledge you, along with your faculty mentor, will create new learning environments that include digital media, games, and other innovative learning technologies. As one of the world’s leading research universities we focus on preparing future researchers and practitioners to advance our understanding of teaching and learning processes.
  • Work closely with your faculty mentor while you explore and expand existing theory through hands-on research and development
  • Join a research team from day one and progressively develop towards becoming an independent scholar well equipped for industry or academia
  • Participate in courses and seminars that are carefully structured to blend a deep understanding of the field with intensive real-world training experiences
  • Become part of nationally recognized research projects positively impacting and reforming existing learning. These projects are funded by such institutions as the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation and NASA
  • Get involved in a variety of research settings, including gaming and virtual environments, K-12 schools, higher education, after-school programs and informal education such as clubs and museums
All qualified students are strongly supported through assistantships, fellowships and scholarships.
