您好 Interested in teaching Chinese?

Chinese language and culture instruction is one of the fastest growing K-12 world language programs in Indiana. Indiana University Bloomington’s School of Education offers three professional education routes in which to earn a license to teach Chinese. Note that applicants with bachelor’s degrees earned in Taiwan or China may not need additional course work in Chinese.

Certification program options:

  1. Transition to Teaching: a fast, cohort-based program; starts in the second summer session (mid-June)
  2. Secondary Graduate Certification program: can be completed on a part-time basis
  3. Community of Teachers: can be completed on a part-time basis; participants are mentored by a public school Chinese teacher of the participant’s choice

All three programs offer “field” experiences with foreign language learners in a school setting.

Each of these three programs is designed to appeal to students with different needs. You may discuss your interests with Jeane Novotny, Graduate Teacher Certification Advisor. A master’s degree option is also available which counts the certification courses towards the degree.

If you live in the Indianapolis area, you may wish to contact Sharice Breland, Academic Advisor, at sbreland@iupui.edu to learn about certification programs available through the School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
