Admissions Policies

Admissions are handled through the Office of Graduate Studies.

The Office of Graduate Studies coordinates the admissions process for all graduate programs in the School of Education. U.S. citizens apply directly to the Office of Graduate Studies (e-mail). If you are not a U.S. citizen, you apply through the Office of International Admissions (e-mail) at Indiana University, which then forwards your application materials to the Office of Graduate Studies in the School of Education. When your application folder is complete it is sent to the IST Department, where it is reviewed by a faculty committee.

See the Office of Graduate Studies website or see "Admission to Graduate Programs" in the School of Education Graduate Program Bulletin, pages 4-8, or the online Bulletin for detailed procedures, criteria, terminology and process.

Your admission status is valid for two years. If you do not matriculate within this time, you must re-apply.

2) Can you waive the GRE requirement?

This is a School requirement; the department cannot waive it.

3) Is a master's degree required for Ph.D. admission?

Not at this time.

4) What about transfer credit?

See Policies Governing Graduate Programs: Courses Counted in Graduate Programs: Transfer Courses, at the School of Education Bulletin online.

5) Will I need an advisor?

Upon admission you will be assigned an interim faculty advisor, who will meet with you until your advisory committee is established (first year of studies for Ph.D. students). Or, if a master's student you may keep your interim faculty advisor throughout your program or ask another faculty member to serve in this role.
