Heidi Davis-Soylu

Degree: PhD

Heidi Davis-Soylu is a doctoral candidate in the Art Education department with a minor in the Learning Sciences. Prior to her graduate studies, Heidi taught in the public schools, developed educational programs for non-profit organizations, and taught in community art centers. While at IU, her academic interests have focused on making the arts more inclusive and accessible. Entering her fourth year, she is currently working on her dissertation, titled Warriors in the park: Amazon sculpture as public pedagogy. In this phenomenological study of informal learning that is hosted by Amazon public sculpture, she is exploring how/what people learn about art outside institutional contexts.

Dianna Marie Huxhold

Degree: PhD

In the fall of 2010, Dianna Huxhold joined the Department of Curriculum and Instruction as a doctoral student in Art Education, minoring in Inquiry Methodology. Her current research interests focus on students’ understanding of and engagement with art, play theory, experiential learning, methods of teaching about and through art, and methodology for investigating this content.

Hallie DeCatherine Jones

Degree: PhD

Hallie DeCatherine Jones is a native of Kentucky. Her educational background includes a BA in Mixed-Media Art and an BA in Political Science from the University of Louisville. After completing her undergraduate studies, she worked for two years in the private sector in various capacities, including multi-media design and in e-learning technology. Hallie returned to the University of Louisville on a full scholarship to complete her MA in Political Science with a minor in Urban Studies, and was awarded the Graduate Dean’s Citation in 2006.

Kyungeun Lim

Degree: PhD

Kyungeun Lim is a doctoral student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Art Education. She has recently begun pursuing a second major in the Department of Education Leadership and Policy Studies in the Fall of 2011. After completing, first, a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in fine art and a minor in education, she went on to complete a Master of Education at Seoul National University in South Korea with a major in art education emphasizing policy studies.

Nancy Webber

Degree: PhD

Nancy Webber is in the doctoral program in Art Education. Her undergraduate work was through the Hope School of Fine Arts with a focus in graphic design, with a minor in art history. Her masters and specialist degrees are in Instructional Systems Technology. Webber taught K-12 art for eight years in southern Indiana. Her research focus for her dissertation is in how public art in communities is used and understood in K-12 instruction and is reflective of societal, political, economic, and social norms.
