Q611 Research Issues in Science Education: A Focus On Science Teacher Knowledge

Course Description: We will explore research related to the history and development of the construct of teacher knowledge, including both subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), with the emphasis on PCK for teaching science . Our focus will be on the development of PCK for K-12 teachers, but also for you as science teacher educators. Driving questions we will explore include: Is there a specialized knowledge base for teaching? If so, what are the implications? If a specialized knowledge base for teaching exists, what are the components? What are effective methods of assessing/documenting a specialized knowledge base for teaching?
