N716 Seminar on Mathematics Teaching and Teacher Education Instructor

The focus of this seminar will be to analyze and discuss research on mathematics teaching and teacher education. This will encompass:

Reviewing the historical development of teacher education with a focus on mathematics teacher education
Examining the theoretical and empirical research literature on teaching and teacher education,
Identifying issues related to the initial preparation of teachers and ongoing professional development of practicing teachers of mathematics
Examining the recommendations of professional groups (such as NCTM and AMTE) and discussing their impact on the current state of mathematics teacher education.
