Master of Science
K-12 Building-Level Administration Track
This program is combined with a licensure program that results in a recommendation for an initial license for building level administration (all school settings). At least 27 of the 36 hours must be from either the Bloomington or Indianapolis campus. The master's degree program is available only to those who hold a standard teaching license, a proficient practitioner license, or a valid out-of-state equivalent license. All applicants for the master's degree program must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of two full years of classroom teaching in a state-accredited school. Upon completion of the master's degree and a state mandated examination, graduates will be recommended for an Initial License as a building administrator in the state of Indiana. To receive the license, all individuals are required to achieve a qualifying score on the ETS School Leaders Licensure Assessment (see ETS webpage ).
Students applying for a master's degree in Educational Leadership are required to complete the GRE . NOTE: The GRE is waived for those with an undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.2. A combined verbal and quantitative GRE score of 900 and a 3.5 score on the analytical writing section is expected. In addition, two letters of recommendation and a goal statement are required. To apply, students are normally expected to have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA or a 3.3 GPA in graduate course work taken prior to application. The admissions committee will evaluate each applicant on the GPA, goal statement and letters of recommendation.
Individuals completing administrative programs are required by the Indiana Professional Standards Board to complete an induction program during their first two years of service as an administrator (see Indiana Professional Standards Board webpage or call toll free 866-542-3672). Completion of the two-year induction program will result in eligibility for the five-year Proficient Practitioner license.
At the beginning of your last semester, all students in the master's program must complete the 36-hour program outline and return to their department. See 36 Hour Program Outline
