Educational Specialist Program
The Ed.S. program of study in school psychology has been established through careful consideration of the current trends in the field, needed foundations and skills, and requirements of the School of Education, the University Graduate School, and various accrediting and licensing entities. The course outline below provides an overview of the Ed.S. program of study that is individually designed by a student and faculty advisor.
Required areas of course work include:
- School Psychology Core: 36-40 hours
- P680 Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in School Psychology 3 hrs.
- P681 Psychology of Cultural Diversity 3 hrs.
- P591 Cognitive Assessment and Intervention 4 hrs. (must be taken concurrently with P595)
- P592 Academic Assessment and Intervention 4 hrs.(must be taken concurrently with P595)
- P595 Practicum in School Psychology 4 hrs.
- P570 Managing Classroom Behavior 3 hrs
- P682 Developmental Psychopathology of Childhood and Adolescence 3 hrs.
- P691 Personality Assessment and Intervention 3 hrs.
- P692 Seminar in Therapeutic Interventions with Children 3 hrs.
- P695 Practicum in Personality and Behavioral Assessment 2 hrs.
- P696 Practicum in Therapeutic Interventions with Children 2 hrs.
- P596 Internship in School Psychology I 2-6 hrs.
- Foundation courses: 15 hours
- A course in child or adolescent development 3 hrs.
- P566 Social Psychology in Education or P622 Social Development 3 hrs.
- A course in learning and cognition 3 hrs.
- A course in the nature of exceptional children 3 hrs.
- A counseling course 3 hrs.
- Inquiry Courses: 6 hours
- Y502 Intermediate Statistics Applied to Education 3 hrs. (must be taken concurrently with Y500)
- Y520 Methods of Educational Inquiry or Y611 Qualitative Inquiry 3 hrs.
- Minor 9 hours
