EFL/ESL Teacher Trainer Program

The EFL/ESL Teacher Trainer Program focuses on the preparation of teacher trainers. EPDE's Teacher Trainer Program is unique in that it highlights critical topics such as mentoring, supervision and literacy coaching. 

Required Courses

1. L546 Mentorship and Literacy Coaching of EFL/ESL Teachers (3 credits)

This course focuses on mentoring language teachers through scaffolded learning and reflection, action research and sheltered instruction (SIOP). This course is in development.

2. L547 Language Policy and Planning (3 credits)

This course is being made online accessible. It is offered on-campus.

3. L540 EFL/ESL Approaches to Instruction and Assessment (3 credits)

This course provides an overview of various approaches to instruction and assessment that incorporates current thinking in the field. Sheltered instruction and content-based models are examples of the instructional models that will be discussed.

4. L525 Practicum in Language Education (3 credits)

Although content will vary with each instructor, the capstone project generally includes teaching video clips, teaching reflections, standards-based course syllabi, and/or a collection of materials from completed coursework that demonstrate a framework reflective of EFL/ESL pedagogy.


Important Note:
The EFL/ESL teacher trainer certificate program emphasizes the preparation of trainers of EFL/ESL teachers. The Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) has a greater emphasis on the study of language and is available through the Second Language Studies Department at http://www.indiana.edu/~dsls/degrees/cert.shtml
