Paula Stickles (Graduated Summer 2006)
I am currently an assistant professor in the School of Education at Millikin University. I am originally from Quincy, Illinois, growing up on the banks of the Mississippi river. I earned a B.S. in mathematics with a minor in psychology from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Upon graduation from Millikin, I completed an M.S. in mathematics at Northern Illinois University. After completing my M.S., I worked as a mathematics instructor at Springfield College in Illinois, while also coaching girls’ basketball at a local high school. I left Springfield College to teach at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, before moving to Indiana. In Evansville, I was the mathematics department chair, high school mathematics teacher, and girls’ basketball coach at a private, independent pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade school, and I also served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Evansville. I left the high school to teach at the University of Southern Indiana before attending Indiana University where I completed my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, specifically mathematics education. I completed my Ph.D. in 2006 and am overjoyed at returning to Millikin, my academic home, to teach. I teach math and education courses. I have an interest in teachers’ mathematical problem posing, teachers’ beliefs, metacognition and problem solving. Away from school, I am a sports fanatic and enjoy the fine arts.
