I am an assistant professor of mathematics education at Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey. I completed my BS and MS at METU in mathematics education. In 1996, I received a scholarship from Turkish government to continue my doctoral study at IU. I completed my doctoral studies in 2000, and in the same year I started work at METU. I have been teaching courses about mathematics teaching methods and the use of technology in mathematics education. Since 2004, I am the assistant chair of the Department of Elementary Education.
My research interests include the use of technology in mathematical problem solving, professional development of mathematics teachers, and multiple representations of mathematics concepts especially through technology and manipulatives.
I recently participated in the national mathematics curriculum development project run by the Turkish Ministry of Education. The purpose of this project was to change the elementary and secondary school curricula with a reformist perspective. I served in the commision that developed the curriculum framework for elementary school mathematics (grades 1 to 8).
In 2005, I co-authored a series of mathematics activity books to be used in a program that support children of families suffering from powerty.
