Gifted and Talented License Program

The School of Education at Indiana University in Bloomington offers a unique, integrated, fifteen hour gifted and talented academic and art license program for K-12 teachers, administrators, graduate students, and counselors. Five courses are required over two summers and are applicable for an Indiana License in Gifted and Talented Education. Courses may be taken without enrollment in the license program.

Faculty are Dr. Janice Bizzari, Dr. Gilbert Clark, and Dr. Enid Zimmerman. Dr. Bizzari is Principal at University Elementary School, Bloomington Indiana and past coordinator of Gifted Programs for Monroe County Community Schools. Dr. Clark is Professor Emeritus of Art Education and Gifted and Talented Education at Indiana University. Dr. Zimmerman is Professor Emerita of Art Education and Coordinator of the Gifted and Talented Education Programs at Indiana University.

All courses in the Gifted and Talented License Program at Indiana University are offered for three credits and meet from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily for five days during June at University Elementary School. Participants can take courses, that meet concurrently, in either the Artistically Talented Program or the Gifted and Talented Academic Program. Registration takes place on the first day of classes. All those who register for courses will be accommodated. Three gifted and talented courses are offered each summer. W551 is offered every summer. W552 (Z530) and Z510 are offered one summer and W553 (Z531) and W595 (Z701) are offered the alternative summer. It is suggested that the W551 course be taken before the other four courses.  Students must have taken at least one gifted and talented course to enroll in the W595 (Z701) practicum course. The following courses are included in the Gifted and Talented License Program:

Focus is on developing leadership abilities for presenting ideas about educating gifted and talented students in a variety of  contexts.
