For Students: Comments from Teacher Evaluations

I fully support the Early Experiences program. I think it is vital to the success of the students to get them into real classroom situations at least two semesters prior to student teaching. Being a classroom teacher is (in my opinion!) an exciting and rewarding career. It is also a very demanding and challenging profession. Teaching is not the profession for everyone and students who are seriously considering the field as their profession need to find out early if they are good teacher material.

It is important to have one-on-one time with the IU student to explain expectations and prepare.

Teachers need help! I would love to have IU students in the classroom more! Thank you for letting them in my classroom.

I wish I had something like this when I was in college. I did my student teaching in high school and hated it. I stayed out of education for 7 years before I landed this job at the elementary. I love my job and the kids. With a program such as yours, I could have saved a lot of wasted time.

IU students need as much experience teaching, evaluating, planning and working with pupils as possible!

I think elementary ed. students should be placed at every level, not just the levels they think they want to teach. A student might find out a certain level is really better (or worse) than he or she thought. It would make the students more "marketable," too.

Have students spend less time "observing" and more time helping students. Examples include: help one-on-one or small groups during work time, even if the students are working on math and the IU student is supposed to be teaching social studies. The extra experience will help them and the extra attention will help the children.

One of my students last semester re-worked his time and came three periods for two times a week. He developed a rapport with the class and I think received some quality learning experiences.

This was my first experience with IU students observing in my classroom and I really enjoyed it! I would be glad to have students in the future.

I love having IU students in my room. The children have the opportunity to have an exciting learning time. It is disheartening when IU students are not enthusiastic about this experience. This is a great time for the IU students to develop a useable unit for their future teaching.

Thank you for a wonderful experience!
