Children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade are warmly invited to join the Indiana University Saturday Art School Program for Fall 2009. Classes take place over 7 Saturdays and conclude with an exhibition and open house on the 8th week. Please contact Sara White, School of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction to obtain a registration form: slwhite@indiana.edu or call (812) 856-8120. All classes will meet at the Wright Education Building, 201 N. Rose Avenue. Some scholarships are available. Please inquire if interested.

Image of abstract artSaturday Art School provides an opportunity for children to experience visual arts instruction in supportive small group settings. Activities involve basic artistic processes and are designed around a new theme each term.

Saturday Art School is part of the IU School of Education Teacher Education program. Sessions are taught by Art Education students and supervised by Art Education faculty and graduate students.

Art Explorations for Kindergarten

  • Time: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
  • Cost: $30.00

Children enrolled in this course will experience a range of 2-D and 3-D art activities which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and sculpture.

**Please note this class is shorter than other classes due to the young age of the children. Children must be at least 5 years old to attend this class. We are sorry, but younger children cannot be admitted under any circumstances.

Art Explorations for Grades 1 & 2

  • Time: 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Cost: $35.00

Children enrolled in this course will experience a range of 2-D and 3-D art activities which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and sculpture.

Drawing and Painting for Grades 3 & 4
Drawing and Painting for Grades 5 & 6

  • Time: 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Cost: $35.00

These courses offer children the opportunity to explore a range of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques for 2-D art making.

Clay and Sculpture for Grades 3 & 4
Clay and Sculpture for Grades 5 & 6

  • Time: 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Cost: $35.00

In these courses children will use a selection of materials that may include clay, wood, cardboard and found objects to make 3-D art works.
