Kathy Essex
I was born and raised here in southern Indiana. I graduate from IU with as degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in middle school mathematics and science. My husband and I moved to Washington, D.C., where I taught in the D.C. public school system. In 1991, we moved back to Bloomington, and I began my graduate work in mathematics education in 1996. I graduated from the doctoral program in 2006, with a minor in Educational Psychology. While working on my degree, I taught undergraaduate and graduate elementary education students, both in the mathematics methods courses and in the field. I also worked with several in-service teachers individually and in workshops. My professional interests include learning more about the development of children's mathematical thinking and reasoning and continuing to work with elementary and secondary mathematics teachers.
I am currently a Visiting Research Associate here at IU, working in the Education and in the Mathematics department on two different professional development projects.
