Eligibility

Seniors from a Pathways school (Emmerich Manual and Arsenal Technical in Indianapolis or Riley High School in South Bend) are encouraged to apply. Only students majoring in programs offered through the School of Education are eligible. Physical education majors, health education majors, and music education majors are not in the School of Education and are not eligible.

If you are interested in this scholarship, be sure to indicate your intention to major in education on your IU application. Once you are admitted to IU Bloomington and have declared education as your major, you are eligible to receive the scholarship.

To remain eligible, you must pass the Praxis I, an assessment of basic academic skills, before the end of the first academic year and maintain adequate progress toward full-admission to your teacher education program of choice (e.g. elementary, special education, secondary education).

Application
  1. Complete the online application: To apply for the scholarship, complete the online applicationNote: Make sure you also apply for admission to IU Bloomington. You can find more information about applying at the Web site for the IU Office of Admissions.
  2. Letter of Recommendation: For this scholarship, you also need a letter of recommendation to be sent from one of the following:
    • teacher,
    • counselor,
    • school administrator, or
    • adult from a community organization, such as a church, club, or athletic team.
    The letter of recommendation should describe how the person knows you, comment on your commitment to learning, and attest to your interest in becoming a teacher. The letter can be sent to the School of Education by mail or e-mail (see Contact below for addresses).

Deadline: April 2

  • Your scholarship application must be received by April 2, 2012.
  • Your letter of recommendation must be e-mailed or postmarked by April 2, 2012.
